Adoption Form

Please Note

In order to adopt a parrot or exotic bird from Northeast Avian Rescue, you must first fill out an adoption application.

No adoptions will be considered without having an adoption application on file.

NEAR receives upward of ten or more adoption applications per day. The applications are panel-reviewed weekly. It may be an extended period of time before we contact you.

We reserve the right to refuse any application, for any reason, at our sole discretion. Our one and only concern is to provide the best possible homes for the animals in our care.

The shelter is open BY APPOINTMENT ONLY. We are not open for walk-ins.

Experience

Depending on the type of bird you're interested in, there are varying levels of experience required. In order to ensure the best possible outcome for all of our adoptions, NEAR reserves the right to refuse any adoption for any reason.

Our goal is to match families with our wonderful birds -- we want to find reasons to complete adoptions, not refuse them! We will do everything possible to make the right match, but remember at the end of the day it's often the bird that picks the person, not the other way around!

I understand that I may be required to furnish a cage for any bird I adopt.*

I understand birds need plenty of enrichment and mental stimulation, so toys should be purchased regularly. Toys can be EXPENSIVE, so attention should be paid to the cost and affordability of these enrichment tools before adopting.*

I understand I will be required to make at least one visit to the rescue to meet the birds and determine compatibility*

Northeast Avian Rescue is located in East Greenbush, NY - Approximately five miles East of Albany.*

I understand a home visit will be required before the completion of any adoption.*
